How ridiculous-he didn't even plan to answer my question directly.
Suddenly, I remembered that he had always treated me this way.
Because he knew I couldn't live without him, that I loved him so much I regarded him as my life.
I had even told him that no matter what he did, I would stand by his side.
But I also said that those words did not include infidelity.
"You're not going to say anything, are you?" I wiped my tears forcefully, looking at him.
"I don't have a special relationship with her. I'm just taking care of her; we're good friends. She's in trouble, and I should help her. As for the child in her belly, it will be sent home later for you to raise. Elsie won't affect your position; you can rest assured," he said, his tone calm and composed, as if it were perfectly natural.
Hearing his words felt utterly absurd.
Taking care of her, and now she's pregnant, expecting me to raise the child-did he think that was some kind of favor?
Did I really know Krish?
My heart ached so much.
I instinctively glanced at Elsie.
Noticing my gaze, Krish stepped forward, instinctively blocking Elsie with his body. He even adopted a defensive posture, as if afraid I would harm a single hair on his precious white moonlight.
He treasured her so much.
Yet he had no basic respect for his own wife.
I locked eyes with him.
I once loved his face so much, and now I hated it just as deeply.
Deception, infidelity-I could never accept it.
I had told him about how my parents were deeply in love, but my father deceived my mother, made her fall in love with him, and then chose to cheat, leading my mother to despair and take her own life with pills.
My father found a new love and forgot the old one, while I was treated like disposable garbage.
Over the years, I had lived a wandering life.
So, I hoped my partner would be honest with me and love only me.
I hated all who deceived me.
I hated all who cheated.
Including the man I once loved.
"Krish, let's get a divorce."
At the moment I said those words, the expression on Krish's face was somewhat terrifying.
"I've said what I needed to say. You go ahead and keep busy; I won't interrupt your date," he replied.
I smiled and nodded at him, saying nothing to Elsie, then turned and left.
Krish called out behind me-
"Sophie Marshall, stop!"
Then Elsie's voice rang out.
"Krish, I... I have a bit of a stomachache."
What a cliché line.
That evening, Krish came home.
He looked tall and elegant, with an outstanding demeanor. Even though he appeared tired, it did not diminish his handsomeness.
When he came back, I was packing my things.
Seeing the suitcase in the living room, Krish's face darkened.
"What do you want?" he finally spoke up.
I didn't answer him; I just looked around the house, this place that once belonged to me.
I had arranged this home all by myself, a large villa worth millions.
Friends and classmates envied me so much.
But no one knew how much I had suffered. The poor cannot become rich overnight. For Krish, I had given everything I could.
What did I get in return?
After packing all my things, I called for a car.
"Sophie, are you planning to stop living a proper life?"
Krish stood beside me, staring coldly.
His handsome face only showed disgust.
"I'll find a lawyer to write up the divorce agreement. Half of the marital assets are mine. I hope you won't do something despicable, like hiding assets," I said to him.
"Are you sure you want a divorce?"
I nodded calmly, "I wish you and Elsie happiness."
"You should know what you'll be giving up by divorcing me."
The anger in Krish's eyes was obvious.
Giving up what? A cheating husband?
I truly didn't care.
"As long as you don't hide the assets, I'm fine with everything else."
I politely nodded at him, received the notification that the driver had arrived, and walked out with my suitcase.
The house contained many of my belongings, but I didn't want any of them anymore; I only took the most important things.
His infidelity had made all the beautiful things seem disgusting.
As I reached the door, Krish spoke again, his voice chilling.
"Sophie, if you leave, don't ever come back."
I smiled.
"I will never look back."
