Chapter 05
Valerie thought that she was definitely going to have an intimate encounter with the cold ground.

But in the next second, her slender waist was firmly held by a man's long and strong arms.

The refreshing scent of peppermint filled her nostrils, captivating her.

"You're burning up... Do you have a fever?"

Wendell lowered his head and looked at the woman in his arms, his usually cold eyebrows showing a hint of concern.

She looked so weak and fragile, arousing his protective instincts.

"It's none of your business!"

Valerie gritted her teeth and tried to break free from the man's embrace.

If she was going to get a divorce, she wanted to do it cleanly, leaving her ex with a carefree farewell.

She didn't want to appear weak and make him pity her!

Although Valerie was sharp-tongued, her body was honest, completely weak and powerless.

Wendell simply picked her up horizontally.

"I'll take you to the hospital."

"What are you doing? Let go!"

Valerie felt uncomfortable and embarrassed, struggling incessantly.

"Don't forget, we're already divorced..."

"During the cooling-off period, you're still my wife."

The man's voice was firm and dominant, not giving Valerie any chance to refuse.

Seeing that they were about to leave, Odelia became instantly anxious.

This was not what she wanted.

She quickly supported her waist and pretended to be weak as she shouted from behind.

"Wendell, wait for me! I can't go that fast… Oh, my! This big belly..."

"Stay here. I'll have Evan come pick you up."

After Wendell finished speaking, he looked at Valerie in his arms again and said in a deep voice, "She's not feeling well. I can't just leave her."

Upon hearing this, Valerie almost rolled her eyes in exasperation.

What was this? He brought a pregnant woman home and asked for a divorce, and now he was playing the caring role?

Who did he think he was? Was she an object for his amusement?

It seemed like he and Odelia really deserved each other. What a despicable couple!

Since that was the case, she would play along with them.

Valerie stopped struggling and took the opportunity to hold onto Wendell's neck. She blinked her eyes coquettishly and said with all her feminine charm, "Thank you then, my ex-husband."

"..."

Wendell's face instantly darkened, and his expression was unfathomable.

Odelia's face turned pale with anger!

At the hospital, Wendell registered Valerie and accompanied her for blood tests.

The test results came out quickly.

"High fever. Viral infection with bacterial complications. If you had come later, you would probably have to spend a few days in the ICU."

After reading the test results, the doctor pushed his glasses up and stared at Wendell with a stern face. He scolded him, "You're such a careless husband. Your wife is burning up like this and yet you let her wear so little. You're not considerate at all!"

Wendell was about to explain when Valerie preempted him and said with a whimpering voice, "Doctor, please, don't say that to my husband. I mean, I knew what I was signing up for when I married him. The bad temper? Fine. Ignoring my basic needs? Whatever. The cheating? Classic. And now the divorce? Just icing on the cake. But honestly, can I blame him? Look at that face. Who wouldn't ruin their life for someone so handsome? I really do make the best choices."

Wendell was stunned.

What was this woman doing? She was completely different from what he remembered!

The doctor seemed equally shocked by Valerie's words. He looked at Wendell, then at Valerie, and sighed repeatedly, "Young people these days are just outrageous!"

"After finishing this bottle of IV drip and taking the medicine, there shouldn't be any more problems."

The doctor quickly finished speaking and hurriedly left.

In the hospital room, only Wendell and Valerie remained. The atmosphere suddenly became subtle.

In their four years of marriage, they rarely spent time alone together.

Wendell stood with his hands in his pockets, looking down at Valerie from above. "Not playing anymore?"

Valerie awkwardly coughed twice. "Not playing anymore."

If she continued provoking him, she feared she might lose her life here.

"With such a high fever, why didn't you call me to reschedule?"

At that moment, Valerie's face was red from the fever. She lay there pitifully like a helpless rabbit. It made him feel somewhat sorry for her.

"Why bother? If Mr. Joule wants a divorce, rescheduling doesn't make much sense."

The high fever left Valerie weak and powerless. She cherished Wendell's tenderness but also knew she couldn't indulge in it.

"Thank you today. I'm fine now. You can go. Your pregnant lover is waiting for you!"

These words seemed to awaken Wendell slightly.

"Alright then. I'll leave first."

Just then, a tall figure walked into the hospital room.

"Valerie, weren't you going to get a divorce? Why did you end up in the hospital..."
