Chapter 3
Caitlin looked at Jeffery, biting her lip softly. "Jeff, Amelie seems really angry. Why don't you go apologize to her and try to cheer her up?"

Jeffery was also angry. "Don't worry about her!"

"She's just throwing a little tantrum. She'll be fine in a couple of days!"

I heard their conversation and couldn't help but smirk, silently mocking them.

In the end, I didn't stay to get an IV at the hospital; I took some antipyretics and left. But before I could even get out of the hospital, I fainted on the floor and lost consciousness.

When I woke up, I found myself lying in a hospital bed. A nurse was administering an IV to me.

Once the nurse finished, she couldn't help but ask, "Mrs. Lang, your fever was so severe. Why did you come to the hospital alone? Where are your family or your husband?"

I forced a smile. "My family isn't here. As for my husband… he's busy taking care of his first love and has long forgotten about me, the legal wife."

Upon hearing this, the nurse immediately expressed her indignation. "Wow!

"A cheating husband-what a scumbag!"

"What's the point of keeping such a man around? You should kick him out!"

I chuckled. "I've already kicked him out. You can now call me Miss Simpson."

Suddenly, my phone rang.

I had left it on the table, so I asked the nurse to bring it to me.

The nurse handed me my phone, and I saw it was Jeffery calling. Without thinking, I hung up.

I didn't want to hear his voice right now.

As soon as I hung up, he called again, persistently, as if he wouldn't give up until I answered.

Unable to tolerate it any longer, I finally picked up the phone.

"Is there something you want?"

My throat was dry and scratchy from the fever, making my voice hoarse.

Jeffery directly asked, "Where are you?"

"I'm home, and I haven't seen you return yet."

"Amelie, there's a limit to throwing a tantrum. Hurry back home; I'm waiting for you!"

I glanced at the IV in my arm, feeling powerless. "I can't go back."

I was so dizzy I didn't even have the strength to argue with him.

Jeffery finally noticed something was off in my voice. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

I didn't want to say anything, but the nurse beside me overheard and chimed in.

"Sir, your wife is hospitalized with a high fever, and you still ask her what's wrong? Don't you have any shame?"

"You have a high fever?"

Jeffery suddenly shifted his focus to me. "You have a high fever? Why didn't you tell me?"

I sneered. "If I told you, would you care?"

Jeffery frowned. "Amelie, stop messing around. You're my wife. If I don't care about you, who will?"

Hearing those words felt ironic.

If he truly cared about me, he wouldn't only now be showing concern for my condition.

He cared about his first love far more than he ever did for me.

I hung up the phone again.

Due to the dizziness, I quickly drifted off to sleep.

I don't know how long it had been, but I felt someone touching my forehead.

I woke up to find Jeffery standing at the foot of my bed.

He looked at me and said, "The fever has gone down."

I touched my forehead and confirmed it wasn't as hot anymore.

Jeffery came over to handle the discharge paperwork and pay the medical bills.

He forcibly took me to his car.

I wanted to refuse, but I couldn't break free.

I was a bit angry. "I don't want to go back with you!"

Jeffery said, "You don't have a choice!"

He dragged me into the house, and a slender figure suddenly emerged from the kitchen.

"Jeff, you're back! I just cooked dinner…"

I was stunned. This person was Caitlin?!

Jeffery actually brought Caitlin home?!

I looked at Jeffery, my eyes questioning him about what was going on.

Jeffery looked a bit awkward. "Cait is sick and needs someone to take care of her. Her parents are gone, and she doesn't have many relatives, so I brought her home to take care of her for a few days."

I was immediately infuriated and laughed ironically. "Jeffery, if she's sick, she can go to the hospital. Why do you have to bring her home and take care of her personally?!"

"What do you take me for?!"

"Am I a fool?"

Jeffery explained, "I don't trust the hospital staff to take care of her properly."

But to me, that explanation was far-fetched!

It would have been better if he hadn't explained at all!

Disappointment filled me, and my gaze turned icy. "Jeffery, if she's here, I won't be. Get her out immediately, and I'll move back in!"

"If you don't kick her out, we'll get a divorce right away!"

She was giving him an opportunity, a final chance to hold onto her.

Jeffery frowned. "Amy, don't push me!"

I was already deeply hurt by him, but I forced a smile and said, "Yes, I am pushing you."

Caitlin weakly interjected, "Jeff, I should just pack up and leave now."

"I'm here, and Amelie won't be happy. She can't tolerate my presence."

Suddenly, I snapped, glaring fiercely at Caitlin. "Shut up! You have no say here!"

Caitlin seemed frightened by me, her face paling as she clutched her chest and gasped for breath.

"Cait!"

Jeffery hurried over, nervously protecting Caitlin.

Caitlin leaned against Jeffery, her eyes glancing at me with a hint of provocation.

It was as if she were saying, "You lost; you can't compete with me!"

Jeffery glared at me in anger. "Amelie, Cait really isn't feeling well. Don't provoke her!"

I laughed, tears streaming down my face.

I already knew who Jeffery had chosen.

I went straight upstairs, grabbed the signed divorce agreement, and angrily threw it at Jeffery. "Sign this! From now on, let's cut all ties and have nothing to do with each other!"
