I turned and went upstairs, first to my daughter's room to pack away her belongings.
Before Aliya died, she didn't get to see her father for the last time, all because of Juliana.
I didn't want to leave Aliya's things here and have to see that woman's smug expression.
After packing up my daughter's belongings, I returned to my bedroom with Daniel and quickly gathered my clothes.
I didn't have much stuff; apart from my daily clothes and toiletries, there was nothing important.
I packed up the more important items and stuffed the rest into a bag, planning to throw them away as garbage.
This included some photos of Daniel and me together, our wedding pictures, and a few gifts I hadn't given him yet.
After I was done, I started to carry my luggage downstairs.
The aroma of cooking wafted from the kitchen.
I glanced in the kitchen's direction and saw Daniel busying himself.
He was cooking for Juliana now?
Ha, I never thought he could cook.
In the five years we were together, he had never once set foot in the kitchen for me.
Instead, I was the one who cooked for him daily, trying different recipes, only to receive disdainful looks that suggested he didn't want to eat.
"Kailynn, why has your cooking gotten worse?"
It hurt my heart. I had done laundry and cooked for him tirelessly, yet he never showed me a bit of care and was always picky and dissatisfied.
Insecurities filled my bones.
At that time, my dear daughter, Aliya, would always defend me.
"Daddy, Mommy's cooking is really good; you shouldn't complain about her."
Aliya cared for me, stood up for me, and I felt comforted. Although Daniel had issues with me, he would restrain himself a bit in front of our daughter.
Whenever I suffered in silence before Daniel and cried quietly, Aliya would always wipe my tears, telling me not to cry.
When I cried, she would want to cry too.
Whenever Daniel went to see Juliana, and Aliya saw that I was upset, she would pretend to be sick to trick Daniel into coming back to be with her.
This wasn't the first time Aliya had said to me that she hoped I could get along well with Daniel, be a loving couple, and give her a harmonious, happy family.
But sadly…
Now, Aliya was gone.
She left this world without ever experiencing the joy of a loving family and harmonious parents.
And without Aliya as a bond, there was no reason for me to stay with Daniel any longer.
Juliana strutted over to me, smiling smugly, completely different from the weak, fragile woman who had just been hiding in Daniel's embrace.
"Kai, did you see? The man you loved for ten years and chased after desperately is now cooking for me."
"He loves me, while you… are just my defeated foe!"
"You will never be able to replace my position in his heart!"
I looked at Juliana; her complexion was good, standing tall, showing no signs of the pale weakness of someone close to a miscarriage.
"Juliana, are you doing this on purpose?"
"Did you even have a miscarriage?"
If it hadn't been for Juliana, Aliya wouldn't have had the accident today.
After kindergarten, Daniel had promised to pick her up after work.
But he didn't go to pick her up on time; instead, he went to the hospital to accompany Juliana, who was supposedly about to miscarry.
Aliya waited for Daniel to pick her up, but he didn't even notify me to go and get her.
By the time I realized something was wrong, the kindergarten teacher suddenly called to tell me that my daughter, Aliya, had been in an accident and was in critical condition, urging me to hurry to the hospital.
That's when I realized that Daniel had never gone to pick up Aliya; he had indirectly caused her death because of Juliana!
If Juliana had pretended to have a miscarriage to deliberately get Daniel to accompany her, then she was also to blame!
Realizing this possibility made me want to slap Juliana to death!
Juliana provocatively smiled, "So what?"
"Anyway, Daniel doesn't believe you; he believes me."
"He'll believe whatever I say!"
I could no longer hold back and slapped that disgusting, hypocritical face of Juliana.
Juliana didn't flinch or dodge, allowing my hand to hit her face.
Then she let out a sharp scream and fell straight to the ground.
"Julia!"
Hearing Juliana's scream, Daniel rushed out of the kitchen.
He saw Juliana lying on the ground and immediately rushed over to help her up.
Noticing the handprint on Juliana's face, his furious gaze shot toward me.
"What's going on here?"
"Kailynn, did you hit her?"
Juliana leaned against Daniel, weakly defending me, "Dan, don't blame Kai; it's my fault for angering her. She's justified in hitting me."
Daniel was even angrier after hearing this and stormed over to me, swinging his hand at me.
I couldn't dodge in time and was knocked down by Daniel, my right cheek swelling up painfully.
It was more swollen than Juliana's.
I didn't shout or cause a scene; I endured the pain, silently got up from the ground, picked up my suitcase, and headed for the door.
Seeing me genuinely leave with my suitcase, Daniel couldn't believe I was willing to leave him, to leave this home.
He instinctively reached out to stop me.
"Who gave you permission to leave?"
"Apologize to Julia before you go!"
I sneered, "Apologize to her? Not happening!"
"If it weren't for her, if you had picked up Aliya from kindergarten on time, she wouldn't have had the accident and died!"
"How dare you curse our daughter Aliya's death!"
Daniel instinctively raised his hand again, wanting to hit me once more.
Suddenly, he realized something.
Since he returned, he hadn't seen Aliya at all.
Daniel questioned me, "Where's Aliya? Did you hide her?"
Ha~
I really couldn't help but laugh.
He just now realized Aliya was missing?
When I said Aliya was dead, he didn't believe me and thought I had hidden her instead.
How ridiculous!
Seeing me laugh, Daniel grew even angrier, "Kailynn, what are you laughing at?"
"You think hiding Aliya will let you use her to threaten me and get rid of Julia?"
"You really are dreaming!"
I smiled and said, "Think whatever you want."
"Anyway, I'm definitely getting a divorce!"
Daniel seemed taken aback that I had even brought up divorce. In a fit of anger and embarrassment, he immediately said, "Fine, if you want to divorce, let's do it; we'll go through with it tomorrow!"
I nodded, "Okay."
After I finished speaking, I picked up my luggage and left without looking back.
