Chapter 3
As soon as my mother and I returned to the family estate, we saw my father come home with a dark expression.

"What happened?" my mother asked in surprise, looking at my father.

He sneered, "News of the Spencer-Morris marriage is all over the place now. Our family has become the laughingstock!"

The anger my mother had just managed to calm began to boil again. "Gunnar actually wanted Alicia to be his mistress, to take care of his precious Poppy and serve his mother!"

My father rolled up his sleeves, ready to fight. "That little punk Gunnar Spencer must be out of his mind! Who does he think he is to insult my daughter like that?!"

My mother coldly laughed. "That old woman had the nerve to threaten me! She said if we didn't send Alicia over, she'd destroy our entire family!"

My father's body stiffened. "That bastard! He thinks he can walk all over us!"

My older brother walked in with a grim expression, just as he hung up the phone. "The Spencers are interfering with my work. No one is willing to rent me a space for my art exhibition anymore."

Our family had never been threatened like this before, and my father looked like he was about to explode.

He took out his phone and called my younger brother. "Third! I don't care what you have to do, but we're going to get revenge on the Spencer family!"

My younger brother listened calmly to my father's exaggerated rant, but his voice was icy cold. "I know what happened with the Spencers, but there's something more important to deal with first."

My mother snatched the phone. "More important?! We're being bullied, and you think something else is more urgent?"

"The wedding is in a month. Invitations have already been sent out," my brother replied coldly. "Are you planning to collect them back personally?"

My parents' faces paled. Before we returned from abroad, they had flaunted this wedding everywhere, making enemies in the process. It would be humiliating to take the invitations back now.

"What should we do, then?" my father asked, deeply troubled.

"If the Spencers can switch brides, we can switch grooms," my brother responded icily. "Sis, find yourself a new man. One who's better than Gunnar Spencer!"

A chill ran down my spine. "Who?"

At this point, my mother pulled out a stack of photos. "Sweetheart, these are from my personal collection. Pick one!"

I couldn't help but twitch at the sight of the handsome men in the photos. "You've really prepared for this!"

My brother's voice came through the phone again. "And one more thing. This fiasco has brought enough shame to the Kaur family. So, Sis, when are you coming back to take my place?"

This time, I was the one who shuddered.

My parents had been trying to pass the family business onto us siblings.

My older brother wanted to focus on his art, and I just wanted to enjoy life. So together, we had conspired to make our younger brother take over the Kaur family business, while we followed our parents back to our home country.

However, we three siblings had an agreement-whoever did anything to embarrass the family would be the one to take over.

I quickly grabbed the phone. "No! No way! Don't worry, I'll fix this mess!"

With that, I hung up the phone in one breath.

What a joke! There was no way I was going back!

The Kaur family was a big deal abroad. My father had insisted we live anonymously here in the country, saying he was tired of being treated like royalty. That's why the Spencers assumed we were just ordinary upstarts.

But finding a man better than Gunnar Spencer in such a short time? That was going to be difficult.

My parents racked their brains, going over everyone they knew, but they couldn't find a suitable candidate.

My older brother sidled up to me. "Have you thought of anyone?"

I confidently replied, "Leave it to me. I've got this!"

In reality, I wasn't entirely sure this would work, but after thinking it over, I could only come up with one person.

I opened the private room door and saw him sitting at the table, looking down at the menu.

The sunlight from the window cast a gentle glow on one side of his face, highlighting his flawless features with a soft light.

His beauty made even me, a woman, feel inadequate in comparison.

"If you barge in like this again, I'll have to replace my staff," Thomas Willis said in a low voice, not bothering to look up.

I didn't hesitate to sit next to him and pour myself a glass of water. "No matter how many people you replace, they won't be able to stop me. Why make the effort? I have business with you."

Only then did Thomas Willis look up at me, his cold, unreadable eyes betraying no emotion. "What do you want?"

For a moment, I almost forgot the reason I came. His face was simply too distracting.

I quickly snapped back to reality and awkwardly said, "Do you know that Gunnar Spencer has switched brides?"

Thomas Willis absentmindedly rubbed the menu in his hands. "What, do you want to switch it back?"

"What a joke!" I quickly shook my head. "I wouldn't take that trash even if you gave him to me!"

The chill around Thomas Willis seemed to ease a little. "So what do you want?"

I stared at his impossibly handsome face seriously. "Thomas Willis, do you have time to marry me?"

Good story. Liked it didn’t take forever and was funny (not overly depressing). Ex was a jerk but not crazy or abusive.
